Tip 24. Expressing an opinion

To express an opinion in Portuguese, use the word achar (Eu acho que…). The Portuguese word crer is normally NOT used to express opinions. Achar is similar to Spanish hallar (=encontrar) and is also used to mean “to find.”

Example 1:
English: I think that Brazil will win the game.
Spanish: Creo que Brasil va a ganar el partido.
Portuguese: Eu acho que o Brasil vai ganhar o jogo.

Example 2:
English: They always find a way to score.
Spanish: Siempre encuentran la manera de anotar.
Portuguese: Eles sempre acham um jeito de fazer gol.
